SAMARKAND SCO SUMMIT: Dialogue and Cooperation in the Interconnected World

The chairmanship of Uzbekistan in the SCO fell on a dynamic period, rather full of various events and trends – a period of “historical break”, when one era ends and another, still unpredictable and unknown, begins. The modern system of international cooperation, based on universal principles and norms, is beginning to break significantly. One of the main reasons for this is a deep crisis of confidence at the global level, which, in turn, provokes geopolitical confrontation and the risks of reviving stereotypes of bloc thinking. This process of mutual exclusion makes it difficult for the global economy to resume its natural course and for global supply chains to recover.

The President of Turkmenistan conducts a working meeting via the digital system

President Serdar Berdimuhamedov conducted a working meeting via the digital system with the participation of the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers A. Yazmyradov and the hyakims of the velayats, at which they discussed the state of affairs in the agroindustrial complex and ongoing comprehensive measures to organise seasonal agricultural work in the regions. The first to speak was the Ahal Velayat Hyakim Ya. Gurbanov, who reported on the progress of sowing wheat and preparations for harvesting “white gold” in the fields of the region. At the same time, much attention is paid to the readiness of procurement points, ginneries, combine harvesters and other agricultural machinery for the season.

Agroindustrial Complex: Modern Trends and Development Prospects

Issues of the food sector development and the satisfaction of the demand of the population for food in a wide range and of high quality are constantly in the focus of government attention. To effectively address them, the State Commission for Ensuring Food Security has also been established. The agricultural sector is one of the key segments of the economy of Turkmenistan. Favourable natural and climatic conditions that the country has and the well-thought-out strategy of the state in this direction contribute to the dynamic development of the agroindustrial sector. The country creates all the necessary conditions for the high-performance work of farmers and the growth of rich harvests of crops, thanks to which nutritious and environmentally friendly vegetables and fruit, which are very popular both in the domestic and world markets, are grown in our land.

For the Young and with the Youth

– Turkmenistan will develop in the period of the Revival of the New Era of the Powerful State. This message was clearly voiced in the speech of the esteemed President Serdar Berdimuhamedov at the VII Congress of Magtymguly Youth Organisation of Turkmenistan. It is symbolic that the forum was held on the first of September, on the Day of Knowledge and Student Youth. By tradition, this Day is marked by festive events symbolising the aspiration of the Turkmen society to the heights of knowledge in order to achieve new frontiers in the development of the state. At the solemn lines and the first open lessons, it was said about the importance that our country attached to the younger generation, and appeals to acquire knowledge and to become models of patriotism, morality, physical and spiritual health and worthy successors to national life principles were sounded. “Holding the 7th Congress of Magtymguly Youth Organisation on the Day of Knowledge and Student Youth increases its significance,” our esteemed President Serdar Berdimuhamedov emphasises.

Mirror of Creativity of Turkmen Craftswomen

Each monument of antiquity (tangible or intangible culture) left on the Turkmen land is a trace of our ancestors, a silent witness of the past. One of the four types of the world's oldest carpets found by archaeologists in the Pazyryk mounds in Altai (mid-I millennium BC) and now stored at the Hermitage (Russian Federation) is felt mat. All the peoples of Central Asia and Kazakhstan were engaged in the making of felt articles. In a number of cases, the Turkmen felt mat has preserved ancient patterns – symbols that can help specialists, ethnographers, archaeologists and art historians, understand the culture of distant ancestors – more clearly than a carpet.

In Compliance with High World Standards

Today, the conservation and sustainable management of natural resources are among the critical global issues. One of the major challenges facing the international community is environmental management in hydrocarbon exploration and production. Oil- and gas-rich Turkmenistan is actively developing the rich hydrocarbon deposits, including those located in the Caspian Sea, taking a principled and responsible position: to regulate economic activities for any hydrocarbon project, from production to the gas and petrochemical industry, with strict environmental criteria and environmental safety requirements. Seeking to enhance the innovative and technological potential of oil and gas exploration, the Government of Turkmenistan is intensifying partnerships with the well-known foreign companies. The Turkmen state has built the necessary economic and legal frameworks for foreign businesses to operate in an enabling investment environment.

Happy Childhood – the Wealth of the Country

In his Address to the children and people of independent neutral Turkmenistan on International Children’s Day, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov emphasised, “To achieve the objectives of the Programme ‘The Revival of the New Era of the Powerful State: The National Programme of the Socioeconomic Development of Turkmenistan for 2022–2052’, the activities of educational institutions will be improved with the aim of raising healthy, diligent and patriotic generations, bringing up and training them, strengthening their physical and spiritual health and promoting early childhood development. Kindergartens and schools equipped in compliance with international standards will continue to be built.” In this context, the protection of the rights of the child is the priority and crucial task of the state. The Basic Law, the provisions of which underlie all other legal acts, ensures the protection of the rights and interests of the child in our country. The Constitution proclaims the principles of the legal status of an individual and a citizen, that is, the fundamentals that ensure that the child enjoy all the rights. These principles determine the features of the status of the child and are applied to all, without exception, the rights of the child as an individual and citizen, not only set forth in the Constitution, but also enshrined in national laws. The constitutional provisions on the

Rare Specimens of Minerals as a Gift

The geological scientific and educational collection of Magtymguly TSU has been replenished with a new showcase, where rare specimens of minerals from a private collection are exhibited – this is a gift to the University from the teacher, Candidate of Geology and Mineralogy and head of the museum Anatoly Bushmakin. The uniqueness of the new exhibits lies in their beauty, unique form and rare occurrence in nature of such forms, combinations and patterns in stone. Some items were found on the territory of Turkmenistan. The rest is from different parts of Eurasia, Russia, the Kola Peninsula in particular, and the Caucasus. There is native copper from the Urals, lazurite from the Pamirs, salt from Karabogaz Köl, all kinds of fossilised forms of marine organisms, concretions – a mineral outgrowth around an organic base, and secretions – residual holes in a rock, inside which crystals of quartz, barite, or calcite, called geodes, develop, native sulphur, witherite, gypsum, selenite, Ural malachite and ... Turkmen malachite. Yes, do not be surprised, according to the geologist, there are five manifestations of this stone in the country, including those in Koytendag. Visitors can also see semi-precious lazurite, sintered forms from the karst caves of the Kapkutan system (Koytendag etrap), quartz geodes from the Tuarkyr upland and the mountains of the Great Balkhan, which

Preserving National Cultural Heritage

In the period of the Revival of the New Era of the Powerful State under the leadership of our esteemed President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, the socio-political, socioeconomic, cultural and spiritual development is gaining new momentum in independent neutral Turkmenistan. Today, special attention in modern society is paid to the wide-scale study, popularisation and preservation of the national cultural and intangible heritage of the Turkmen people. This is illustrated by fruitful cooperation of our country with UNESCO – the specialised agency of the United Nations for education, science and culture. Turkmenistan became a full member of UNESCO on August 17, 1993, by ratifying the relevant document in London, which is expanding every year. In May, the Turkmen delegation took part in the 8th meeting of the National Commissions for UNESCO of the member countries of the International Organisation of Turkic Culture (TURKSOY), which took place in Bursa (Republic of Türkiye). This ancient city is the 2022 Cultural Capital of the Turkic World. This meeting plays a major role in promoting and preserving the tangible and intangible cultural wealth of the Turkic peoples. The participants discussed key aspects of multilateral cooperation on the UNESCO platform and outlined an action plan on preparation for the 30th anniversary of TURKSOY, which is being celebrated in 2023.

The Start of the Traditional Action

On the first day of autumn, the Ministry of Health and the Medical Industry of Turkmenistan hosted a conference devoted to the campaign “Road safety is the peace of our life”, which started for a month. The event was attended by employees of ministries, departments and public organisations, members of the Interdepartmental Coordination Commission (ICC) on road safety issues, and representatives of the media. The initiative to hold the action, the main goal of which is to ensure road safety and to prevent road traffic injuries is known to belong to our Hero-Arkadag Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and has been held for many years from the first to the thirtieth of September. The efforts of the state in this area are an integral part of social policy. At the Conference, in particular, it was emphasised that the entire road transport infrastructure in our country included a well-thought-out system of intersections regulated by traffic lights, bridges, underpasses, parking lots and others. On a mandatory basis, next to children’s educational establishments and places of mass gatherings of people, traffic police officers are on duty. At the same time, much attention is paid to increasing the awareness of people, especially children and adolescents, in matters of road safety, and targeted work is being carried out to educate them in a conscious and principled attitude to observing safety r

In the Expanses of the Karakum Desert

The largest arid zone in Central Asia and the second largest in the world after the Sahara is the Karakum Desert. Unlike the Arabian and other deserts devoid of vegetation, it is mostly covered with tree and shrub vegetation, or desert forests, which form a kind of ecosystem with their natural and climatic features and biological diversity. Vegetation cover has largely retained its natural character, the constant renewal of which shows the adaptive properties of ecosystems and their ability to withstand the effects of climate change. In this regard, work on environment protection, the rational use of the natural resources of the desert and the reduction of the impact of anthropogenic factors continues.
