Preparations are underway for a complete population and housing census, which will be conducted in Turkmenistan on December 17-27, 2022 using digital technologies. In close cooperation with the Government of Turkmenistan, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) is making its contribution to the preparatory work. Supporting the joint efforts, the UNFPA has provided the State Committee on Statistics with census equipment, which will allow conducting a digital census for the first time in Turkmenistan. A population census is the most important source of information that provides the basis for the development of short-term and long-term socioeconomic development programmes of each country. For example, the population census results only produce such indicators as the level of education, age, family structure and housing conditions, and this makes it unique. In June 2015, the UN adopted a Resolution urging every country to conduct at least one census during the period from 2015–2024. Many of the indicators and sections for which data will be obtained indicate the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.

Export-Oriented Economy: Current Trends and Prospects

The priorities of the economic strategy of any state are to enhance the export potential, to transform from an importer into an exporter of deeply processed products and to stably increase currency earnings. High economic growth is based on such factors as industrialisation, a favourable investment climate for local and foreign investors, access to sea routes and active support for exporters. In accordance with the Socioeconomic Development Programme, Turkmenistan is taking consistent efforts to transform itself into an industrial and export-oriented developed state.

Returning to the Motherland

The history of Turkmen jewellery goes back to ancient times. This is confirmed by archaeological finds in the form of female figurines of ancient times, richly decorated with ornaments on clothes and headdresses. The high skill of working with silver, gold and stones of the Turkmen jewellers has been passed down from generation to generation. The combination of sophistication and nobility, wealth and moderateness makes Turkmen jewellery works of art, over which time has no power. The State Museum of the State Cultural Centre of Turkmenistan hosted the opening of an exhibition entitled “Jewellery Art – Treasury of National Heritage”, where all the jewellery handed over by a Swiss citizen Natalie Markarian-Fard is presented to visitors.
