Agroindustrial complex: the Foundation for Economic Growth and High Standard of Living

The development of Turkmenistan’s agroindustrial complex is linked directly to the achievement of food abundance. Effective large-scale reforms, taking place in this sector, aim to improve the performance of agriculture, to raise crop production and to increase exports. Food abundance is one of the main goals of the agricultural policy of Turkmenistan and, at the same time, an essential condition for achieving the strategic national goal – the high quality of life of citizens. Major projects of private production

Representatives of private business take an active part in large-scale activities within the framework of the implementation of the State programmes of the production of import-substituting goods and the increase in the volume of export products. Due to targeted support from the state, entrepreneurs are able to carry out large projects in various sectors of agriculture. In Turkmenistan, one of the main imported food products is vegetable oil. In order to reduce dependence on foreign supplies of this product, businessmen are actively working on the creation of appropriate production facilities.

Rehabilitating Nature through Desertification Control

The global factor within the mandate of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification is land degradation as a result of natural and anthropogenic processes, aggravated by climate aridisation. This phenomenon can be curbed by land reclamation, the restoration of soil fertility in irrigated areas and the improvement of forage capacity of Karakum pastures. The territory of Turkmenistan is located in the zone of influence of the Karakum Desert where ecosystems are fragile, and careless interference in the “affairs of nature” can worsen the state of the soil and vegetation cover and lead to a decrease in the yield of pastures which are used year-round for animal husbandry. Millions of hectares of desert pastures annually produce hundreds of thousands of tonnes of forage products, but they are far from being used to the full extent due to their insufficient watering. However, the Karakum Desert is not only a forage base, but also an ecological environment, therefore, pasture forage consumption rates are applied, given the need to conserve biodiversity and prevent the depletion of natural pastures. A scheme is used to calculate the number of livestock per unit of land area, the so-called capacity indicator, which is one of the main concepts of the Law of Turkmenistan “On Pastures”. An increase in the number of grazing sheep requires an increase in pasture producti

We produce ourselves

Fresh Bread on Dastarhan In recent years, bread-baking technologists have developed dozens of new types of products from white wheat flour of the highest and first grades and with the addition of bran. These are chureks and loaves called “Bagtyýarlyk”, “Kepekli”, “Bugdaýly”, “Nowruz”, “Diýar” and others. Healthy dietary black bread is not forgotten. The state baking sector produces a total of 200 types of bread, including 120 types of national one. Fresh bread is sold through the chain of grocery outlets of the Ministry of Trade and Foreign Economic Relations and brand stores of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment Protection located throughout the country. To provide the population with bread in the structure of the agro-ecological establishment, a large branched infrastructure, consisting of elevators and bakeries, operates. They are located in all five velayats, with an average of three in each region. The largest of them are designed for the simultaneous storage of up to 100 thousand tonnes of grain products. The storage facilities easily accommodate food and seed wheat with a reserve for a year in advance and also ensure the safety of cereals of other types. For example, the Dashoguz velayat, in addition to wheat and rice, also produces barley, mung beans, sesame, beans and other types of cereals and legumes, including peas as a

Winter wheat sowing campaign starts in Turkmenistan

On September 3, the mass sowing of winter wheat began in Turkmenistan. With the blessing of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, an important agricultural campaign was launched simultaneously in all velayats of the country. The state creates all the necessary conditions for the fruitful work of farmers and the cultivation of rich crops by them.

Safe way, caravan of “white gold”!

On September 8, a mass cotton-harvesting campaign began in Turkmenistan. With the blessing of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, an important agricultural campaign was launched in the Ahal, Balkan, Lebap and Mary velayats. Taking into account the soil and climatic conditions, the “white” harvesting in the Dashoguz velayat will start on September 15. This year, marked by the 30th anniversary of the independence of the Motherland, a good harvest of “white gold” has been grown in the country. And now the main task of the rural workers is to pick it from the fields in a short time and without losses.

Forest Belts Protect Crops

Forest plantations around settlements and cultivated lands are of great sanitary and hygienic importance, which is especially significant for newly irrigated lands in Turkmenistan. The greatest land-reclamation efficiency in this respect belongs to field-protective forest belts around irrigated fields, which have a beneficial effect on the course of crop growing. At the same time, a kind of forestry landscape is being created, as, for example, on the old-irrigated and newly developed lands of the Vas, Shasenem and Hanhovuz massifs and the Kopetdag and Koytendag plains. The network of field-protective forest belts is of great ecological importance for improving the culture of irrigated agriculture and for forming a certain microclimate in the surface layer of the areas adjacent to the fields. Agricultural scientists monitor the moisture regime and seasonal air temperature amplitudes in the fields, including the development and productivity of various crops, primarily wheat and cotton. In the course of the research, it was revealed that, in comparison with the fields protected with the help of forest plantations, the air humidity in open arable land is much lower, which is significant in a sharp continental climate characterised by fluctuations in temperature, an uneven amount of atmospheric precipitation and also strong winds.

A rich harvest is the property of the people

In the modern history of the Turkmen state, under the wise, far-sighted and progressive leadership of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, grandiose reforms, aimed first of all at improving the wellbeing of the Turkmen people and their quality of life by creating abundance of food, are being carried out. And here the most important indicators are the achievements of the farmers, who make every effort and work hard to ensure abundance on the table of every Turkmen citizen. Active and targeted government support and progressive reforms directed at the widespread digitalisation of the agroindustrial complex act as a powerful impetus for the development of agriculture in the country. In this context, the natural and climatic conditions of our country are taken into account, which allows year after year to gather rich harvests of vegetables and fruit, berries and grain crops. Particular attention is paid to the rational use of water and land resources, as food abundance is a symbol of a successful and prosperous economy. Wheat production today makes it possible to fully meet the domestic needs of the country in grain.

Wheat and quality

In the prosperous epoch of a powerful state, under the tireless efforts of the distinguished President, significant work is being carried out to develop the agricultural sector of our country. As a result of the tireless and pure work of the brave farmers, a plentiful crop of dense wheat is grown every year, that is the abundance of our table and the source of life. In the year «Turkmenistan — Homeland of peace and trust», brave farmers from all velayats of our Land came ready for the harvest. Thanks to the great initiatives of the wise Arkadag, in the prosperous epoch of a powerful state, giving a plot to the true owners, the positive solution of problems with water and fertilizers, the provision of high-quality grain to farmers, the purchase of foreign equipment that meets land and air conditions, created ample opportunities for a high wheat harvest. Specialists of the Central Laboratory of the State Service «Turkmenstandartlary» Akhal velayat and the city of Ashgabat contributed to ensuring uninterrupted wheat harvesting.
