Healing Root at All Times

Speaking at one of the sittings of the Cabinet of Ministers, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov called upon scientists and health professionals “to take a science-based approach to using medicinal plants, including those that grow in our land and should be studied thoroughly.” Many regions of Turkmenistan (Kopetdag, Great Balkhan and Small Balkhan, Koytendag) abound in valuable species of medicinal plants. Liquorice (buyan in Turkmen, Glycyrrhiza glabra in Latin) has a special place among a huge number of useful wild plants that grow in the Amudarya valley. It is also known as liquorice root and Glycyrrhiza glandulifera. The liquorice plant is an herbaceous perennial legume.

Personal Hygiene Rules

Hygiene is an extremely comprehensive concept. It includes the regime of working and rest conditions, rational nutrition, adherence to the rules of body care, use of hygiene products and much more. Personal hygiene is a set of rules for human behaviour in everyday life or at work. In the narrow sense, it is hygienic maintenance of body, clothing and household items. Violation of personal hygiene requirements can negatively affect the health of not only one person, but also of large groups of people (team, family, members of various communities).

To the Glory of Turkmenistan

Training sessions of Turkmen weightlifters from the men and women’s national teams, who are preparing for the qualifying competitions of the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo (Japan) postponed to 2021, resumed in the last days of December last year. Our weightlifters improve their skills at the Ashgabat Olympic Complex that offers the conditions conducive to training. President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov made sure of that during his recent visit to the main sports facility of Turkmenistan. The ambitious Olympic Complex project was initiated and approved by the leader of the nation, who adheres to a healthy lifestyle and makes regular hiking, horse riding and cycling tours at the foothills, setting a good example for talented Turkmen youth. With putting into operation the sports facility, which has no analogue in Central Asia, Ashgabat became one of the most popular cities in the world to host major international tournaments. This inspired our athletes to much better performance at sports competitions, which profoundly contributed to their outstanding results.

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly BERDIMUHAMEDOV: “Peace, security and development in Central Asia directly depend on the settlement of the situation in Afghanistan. Turkmenistan has a clear and invariable position: there is no alternative to the negotiation process.”

Relying on the Neutral Status

At present, taking into account new modern challenges, the purposeful and far-sighted policy of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov based on the principles of neutrality and aimed at ensuring of peace, trust and harmony at the global and regional levels, is becoming increasingly important. The enormous demand for such policy is evidenced by the unanimous adoption of the Resolutions “2021 – International Year of Peace and Trust” and “The Role and Significance of the Policy of Neutrality in Maintaining and Strengthening International Peace, Security and the Process of Sustainable Development” at the UN General Assembly sessions on the initiative of our country. The establishment of peace and trust is exactly what humanity needs most of all at present, because today these two inseparable concepts are becoming the main condition for cooperation and development. The policy of neutrality of Turkmenistan is based on these simple and rather obvious postulates.

An Ornament – an Artistic Discovery of Humanity

The cultural heritage of the Turkmen people that originates from the Jeytun period – the Neolithic Period, the New Stone Age (X-V millennia BC), marked by the further progress of the earliest human communities in the territory of modern Turkmenistan, is rich and diverse. During this period, the way of life switched from hunting and gathering to the domestication of animals and the cultivation of plants, in other words, to food production. The settlements of farmers and cattle breeders emerged in the territory of Southern Turkmenistan in the VI millennium BC. Farmers made a significant contribution to ancient culture; they raised the art of pottery and ornamentation to a high artistic level. In Turkmenistan, the early Neolithic monuments have many fragments of ceramic vessels decorated with simple patterns, such as straight, oblique and wavy lines. However, ancient pottery decoration saw its heyday in the Eneolithic period – the Chalcolithic Age.

A Legend of the Great Balkhan

The Great Balkhan is a mountain range in the west of Turkmenistan, in the Balkan velayat, near the south-eastern coast of the Caspian Sea. The dry river bed separates it from the Small Balkhan and the western end of the Kopetdag ridge. The highest point of the Great Balkhan is Mount Arlan. The mountains are famous in all the surroundings, and the ridge itself looks like a fortress, towering over the surrounding plains. Many legends are associated with the mountain system of the Great Balkhan. Thus, there are widespread legends about the valour of people living in the mountains, who experienced many ordeals. One of the legends says that once the Great Balkhan abounded in mountain springs, but during one of the enemy raids, the locals clogged them with felt mats. When the enemies left, people failed to make the precious water come back. There is a hope in this legend that the water will return, and the surroundings of Balkhan will again turn into a blooming oasis.

The Year 2020 — a Significant Milestone in the History of the Country

Time runs fast. So the year 2020 is over. It was the 29th year since the declaration of our independence and the 25th one since the acquisition of the status of permanent neutrality. Though not years, but accomplishments measure the full-blooded life of Turkmenistan as a sovereign neutral state. Having absorbed many significant events, 2020 will also enter another bright page in the country’s chronicle. By these milestones, our descendants and future historians will judge what we have achieved. And I would like to hope that, following the well-known truth “the future is better seen at a distance”, they will appreciate the great achievements of the Era of Might and Happiness of independent neutral Turkmenistan under the leadership of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. Among these events, a special place is occupied by the publication of the book by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov Turkmenistan – the Home of Neutrality. The work of the national leader is an important contribution to the study of national origins and the historical significance of Turkmen neutrality as a phenomenon in international relations.

Important Doctrine in the Life of Humankind

In the book of the respected President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov The Spiritual World of the Turkmen People, it is emphasised that “the most important measure of wealth for a person and humanity is peace on earth, a healthy lifestyle and wellbeing. Leading doctrines of peace are based on peaceableness and friendship.” Peace preservation and adherence to the principles of international law, trust, good neighbourliness and friendship are an important component of international documents and national legal systems of the countries of the world. This and also the Resolution “2021 - International Year of Peace and Trust”, adopted at the 106th plenary meeting of the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly on the initiative of the President of Turkmenistan, vividly testify to the theoretical and practical significance of these values. For over 30 years of independence and a quarter of a century of permanent neutrality, Turkmenistan, following the concept of peace and trust, has demonstrated the practical importance of these socio-political values for ensuring the development of international economic, political, cultural and humanitarian relations. At the same time, Turkmen culture serves as an inexhaustible source for diplomacy of peace and trust. The significance of Turkmen diplomacy lies in the fact that the truly valuable becomes the common cultural heritage of the entire p

President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov took part in the celebrations on the occasion of the opening of the resort. Bagabat, covered with snow, became a really fabulous palace for holidaymakers on these New Year’s days. In the “blossoming valley”, and this is how the name of the sanatorium and the area is translated from Turkmen language, the trees, covered with hoarfrost, against the background of the majestic snow-capped rocks complement the overall picture, creating a feeling of magic and tranquillity. Around the white-marble building of the health resort, in a landscaped area, there are paths for walking and arbours, over which winter also conjured.
