Permanent Neutrality of Turkmenistan – a symbol of peace and good neighbourliness
Thisyear is special for our country. We are celebrating the 25th anniversary of the permanent neutrality of our independent state. This date is of historical significance for the world community as a whole, since for the first time inthe history of international relations, the neutrality of Turkmenistan was approved by representatives of 185 countries in the Resolution adopted by theUN General Assembly on December 12, 1995. All these years, Turkmenistan has been strictly following the principles of a policy of positive neutrality, promoting the strengthening of peace and stability in the Central Asian regionand mutually beneficial and friendly relations among states. Recognising theactive peacekeeping and constructive mission of permanently neutral Turkmenistan, the UN General Assembly, with the support of 193 states, againadopted a resolution in which it reaffirmed the status of the permanentneutrality of Turkmenistan on June 3, 2015. Thus, in international relations, neutrality is accepted as an example of equal international cooperation basedon the principles of mutual respect and mutual benefit.
