The Main Thing – Attention and Responsibility

Under the leadership of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, who shows the unceasing concern for the people’s welfare and the enhancement of the international authority of the state, in independent neutral Turkmenistan, people are proclaimed the supreme value of society at the constitutional level. Reforms allow ensuring the sustainable socioeconomic development of the country and improving dramatically the social and living conditions of the people. The distinct society-orientation of the economic policy of the national leader enables our state to move forward along the path transformations and to improve the standard of living of citizens of Turkmenistan. This is evidenced by an increasing number of citizens who buy vehicles. This, on the one hand, creates convenience for people, and on the other hand, it requires a responsible approach to managing it and puts road safety, road traffic injury prevention and healthcare for citizens in the spotlight.

Person, society, nature

Favourable natural conditions have always served as the natural basis for a healthy and prosperous human life. And the life and health of people are known to be the greatest social value. Taking this into consideration, Article 52 of the Basic Law of the country stipulates that everyone has the right to health protection. And according to Article 53 everyone has the right to an environment conducive to life and health. The state controls the rational use of natural resources in order to protect and ensure healthy living conditions for the population, protection and preservation of the environment. At the same time, the Constitution of Turkmenistan enshrines broad personal rights of citizens in relation to nature management. At the same time, the population is also obliged to participate in environment protection activities, in adherence to a healthy lifestyle and in the observation of sanitary norms.

City parks of the capital

Ashgabat is one of the greenest cities in our Motherland. Shady parks, green public gardens and entire forests, encircling the Turkmen capital city, decorate it with emerald greenery and a rainbow of flowering plants, giving shade and coolness in the summer heat.

Priorities of socioeconomic policy

Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is one of the most important priorities of the socioeconomic policy of Turkmenistan. Our country actively and closely cooperates with international organisations and UN agencies to further integrate the SDGs into national plans and to update sectoral plans and strategies. The Turkmen state at the national level adopted all 17 Sustainable Development Goals, aimed at developing economic, social and environmental aspects, in September 2016. In 2018, the book by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov Turkmenistan on the Path to Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals was published. It reflects the main achievements of Turkmenistan, clearly defines goals and highlights priorities, on the implementation of which the necessary financial, material and human resources of the state are concentrated, which makes it possible to effectively develop all spheres of the economy. For example, the Programme of the President of Turkmenistan for Socioeconomic Development for 2019–2025 is aimed at achieving sustainable development and makes the consistent implementation of the SDGs one of the main priorities.

Turkmenistan – a Society - Oriented State

President Gurbanguly BERDIMUHAMEDOV: A key priority of state policy has been, is and will be the concern for the people’s welfare, and everything being done in our country today is done for the sake of a life of dignity in all respects of the Turkmen people – the present and future generations.

Transport - strategically important direction of cooperation

This statement was once again confirmed by a trilateral meeting of the Presidents of Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan and Afghanistan, which was held in videoconference mode. In the context of the main topic of discussion, the promotion of the Lapis Lazuli international transport and transit corridor, the heads of state raised issues related to energy, trade, telecommunications and investments. Thus, the dialogue demonstrated the political will and comprehensive approach of the Presidents of Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan and Afghanistan to build long-term and effective cooperation in the interests of sustainable development and to strengthen cooperation between Asia and Europe. The relevance of the topic raised at the meeting is quite obvious, since the transport sector is one of the key segments of the global economy, directly influencing the stability of trade relations, and it plays an important role in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. In this regard, it is worth recalling that in November 2016, on the initiative of Turkmenistan, the Global Conference on Sustainable Transport was held in Ashgabat with the participation of the UN Secretary General. On the initiative of Turkmenistan, the UN General Assembly also adopted three Resolutions aimed at ensuring international cooperation for sustainable transport.
